We felt it was time to step away from our impractical 70’s home (think funky yellow/brown tiles, archway garage and exposed brick walls) to a modern home of our Pinterest dreams.

We had an architect do initial drawings/ideas but left the job half finished. In comes Mat who picked up the pieces and managed to build our home without any fuss.

Transparency – We wanted to get involved with the build ourselves to save costs. Mat was fully flexible with this idea and gave us projects to do on the weekend (all within regulation of course).

Honesty – Mat understood the reasoning behind our dream home design, so if he knew of a better or more affordable method/product/layout, he wouldn’t be afraid to suggest it.

Time management – Like mentioned earlier, from start to finish, this major home reno only took 6 months. This is unheard of when building a home!

Communication – A lot of decisions had to be made on the fly, so a quick phone call from Mat outlining our options made it easy to make a decision on the spot. This definitely contributed to the fast turn around of the home build.

Mat was also good at providing regular updates on what rooms, finishing’s and trades would be completed each month. This clear communication helped us make sure our deliveries were ready for his tradesmen.

Embarking on a major home reno is scary, exciting but most of all, exhausting. The key to a successful build is a cooperative team.
